[Travel] How much money to bring to Korea for a 7 days trip?

I often see a lot of people asking others how much to bring to Korea for X days. Some said RM2.5k is more than enough, some RM4k is not enough, some said RM7k is not even enough. I be like WHATTTTTT. WHICH ONE???

How much money to bring for a trip is personal and differs between individual. Some people do not fancy shopping, they focus more on sightseeing and the food. Some fancy shopping, food, sightseeing and everything (just like me).

Some skip shopping (eh how can that be possible) and splurge on food, good food every single meal. I will still go for good food once in a while, mostly simple and comfort food to fill my tummy.
Skip the crap, here’s how I budget my trip. I am a calculative person, just started recently. I find it difficult to follow advice of others and time consuming to read on how much money you need, so I created mine.

Things you need:
- Know yourself well. Ask yourself what you will spend on and how much are you willing to spend.
- Know the average price of the items you will spend on.
- Budget it according to the category and price, create a list.
- Pen & paper/Excel.

Let me show you an example:
- I will be in Korea for 8 days 6 nights.
- Flight and hotel booked and paid before departure.
- Day tour, tickets for sightseeing, T money card, SIM card are booked and paid.

Exclusions: food, shopping, souvenirs, transport

I did not include my shopping budget here since I normally got crazy and will use credit card instead. The exchange rate can be good, and I can get cash rebates. Do control yourself not to overspend and remember to monitor the usage as I frequently heard storied about credit card fraud when they use it overseas.

I will normally round it up to 600k won or just top up additional to 700k won, knowing that I will go crazy and it is better to have some extra money with you while traveling aboard.

Use the exchange rate and multiple the currency and you will get the figure in RM. Always monitor the exchange rate and know which rate to buy. I prefer to buy batch by batch whenever the exchange rate is around 1000won=RM3.70.

Do not leave your credit card at home. You might want to bring at least 1 card and some RM with you just in case anything happened.

Additional tips:
- Plan your route and trip of the day to save time and of course money. Download the subway app, it shows the stations and the price as well.

- Budget a little more so you can have some extra to splurge on.

- It is not necessary to stick to 10,000won per meal. Some days you can settle your breakfast for 5,000won in the mart, or you slept extra and start your day with brunch.

- Survey the items you wanted to buy and their prices. Make a shopping list so you do not spend on unnecessities.

Following these steps, you will now know how much to bring for a trip for X days. Do some homework and create your own budget is faster than browsing those results on Google. This is what I think since my spending habit is not same with others. Same goes to your spending habit is not same as mine.

Download this Korea Subway app before departing to Korea! It is really useful and helpful. It listed down the fares and the attractions nearby the station, along with some reviews of places by the users.

Hanchao is another useful app. You may also logon to their website. From buying various travel packages to reviews, subway maps and attractions. You name it they have it. However, it is in Chinese. If you do not know the language this will be an issue.

Lesson learned:
Try to pay now instead of pay later. It sucks more money due to the exchange rate and the bank.
Try to avoid using the said card since it convert the charged currency to USD then to RM. My card is pure points collection and no cash rebate. Made a big loss.

[Travel] Seoul: Hanbok rental @ Flowery Hanbok 花样韩服

FINALLY travelling to Seoul with hub! Must do things include wearing hanbok and go for a photoshoot. Planned to book local photographer on some famous sites but it was way over my budget.

Found Flowery Hanbok and decided to book a session with them as they provide:
(1) Hair styling
(2) Make up service
(3) Photoshoot

*Make up service is only available for those who booked the photo shoot session with them.

How to get discount on hanbok rental?
Prebook your session on Creatrip [Link below] and enjoy a 10% discount!
Click on the link -- sign up as member -- book a session -- show your Creatip member page upon arrival -- done!

Detailed article about Flowery Hanbok (in Chinese): https://www.creatrip.net/blog/716/%E8%8A%B1%E6%A8%A3%E9%9F%93%E6%9C%8D10%E5%84%AA%E6%83%A0

My experience
They open at 10am. I was being kiasu so I booked 10am and arrive earlier to make sure that I get to pick the hanbok I like first.

Everyone is allowed to try on the hanbok twice for free. Firstly, pick the skirt you like, the staff will help to match the top for you. Of course you may choose on your own.

The entrance. This is actually the hanbok I like but they only have that one and only piece, which is this one on display.

My hairdo, decided by the unni. I love it but sadly it makes my face look really round.

What I had chosen. Can Can is included, don't worry about the skirt is way too long and don't look nice.

His pick
Hat, top and bottom are all included.

The photo shoot is 1 hour. You can opt for 1 hour for outdoor or 15 mins of indoor plus 45 mins of outdoor. We opted for the latter option. Once the indoor session is done, we walk to Gyeongbokgong for the outdoor session. You may request for any pose, view or background that you want, but it will be all within the time frame of 1 hour.

The hanbok rental will be 4 hours. We have plenty of time to stroll around in the palace after the photo shoot. Do note that entrance to the palace with hanbok is free! Else you need to pay 3,000won for the entrance fee.

It was spring and the temperature was around 14 celcius. I couldn't stand the wind and the cold so we decided to return the hanbok earlier and move to the next round.

End result
Our photographer was Nora. She send us all the photos around 1 week through email, with a link to Dropbox. There will be around 10 edited photos and all softcopy returned. Definitely a great deal!

[Personal] New blog | Slightly different me | New life

Stories on how I started blogging

I actually had a blog which I opened around 8-9 years back. I was in college studying ACCA and blogging is trending. Being kiasu and still wanting attention, I created a Blogspot and started blogging.

I talked lots of crap, did some advertisement post and had some traffic, compare to this new and deadly blog. Managed to attend few bloggers event and get to know some new friends. Got paid by writing blog too. Wow. Blogging is so cool.

Back then I was still being confident with myself. I passed my all my CAT papers and 4 papers in ACCA fundamental level straight, without studying like mad. Same attitude from high school where I started studying 2 weeks before SPM. I love SPM since there are breaks in between. I study those which the exam comes first and leave the rest. Bad attitude since I knew I am continuing my studies for UEC.

I do not have any high ambition to go anywhere, what to study and what to do. Finish what I should and think about the future later. I was thinking of skipping uni until I got scolded really bad by my aunt. Well, I laughed at myself while writing this.

Confused? I studied in Chinese independent school for 6 years. I did both SPM and UEC, more choices available for me since I have both certs.

Closing down the old blog

Why do I closed the old blog? Because I want to save the memories and negativity for myself only.
I privatised it for my own view, just in case I want to read those old stories one day.

There are memories that I would want to hide it because they are too funny and dumb. HAHAHA. They are still precious and brought me to who am I today.

Direction of this new blog

This new blog will be more to sharing travelogue, some beauty products and whatever that pops out later from my mind. Not much personal matters to share as things are totally different nowadays. No more one sided love stories, talk about craps and complaints.

I became a typical office lady by day and housewife at night. HAHAHAHA. No time for craps I tell you. Even scrolling my phone is mission impossible.

But you have time to blog??

Yes, I rather spend my time on typing what I want to share than scrolling my phone, seeing how good is their life. By the way, social networks nowadays lost the way how they used to be. They used to be very sincere, sharing all the good and bad, happiness and sadness. Now, they are more to business, gaining likes and popularity.

Next step

I have a few posts in draft that are yet to complete. Have some blogging ideas too but I did not list it down properly. I was busy shopping and daily life. Ok la I admit I am lazy.

I hope to share things that are really useful and the most sincere reviews and comments.

But...

this will take some time.

HAHAHAHAHA I am lazy and busy.

I will be traveling soon and need to start my effort to gain my ACCA membership which I have a hard time to write the objectives.

I actually wrote this post after few posts and set the publish date before those because my OCD is that bad.
